LOS ANGELES — UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium has anchored Bruins baseball for more than four decades.
But the university is facing new scrutiny after a federal oversight report revealed it went 14 months without paying rent to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which oversees leases on the West Los Angeles VA campus.
For Rob Reynolds, a veteran and longtime advocate for housing on the property, the discovery is more than a financial oversight. It’s the latest chapter in what he sees as a pattern of the land being used for anything but what Congress intended.
“There are veterans living on this VA property with severe disabilities or mental health issues,” Reynolds said. “If they didn’t pay rent for a couple of months, they would be evicted.”
