VA, Justice Department tout progress on units for unhoused veterans at West LA campus

WEST LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Don Garza knows what it’s like to serve in the U.S. military and — like tens of thousands of veterans — to be unhoused.

“I’ve been in skid row for 26 years, so I’ve lived on the street, I lived in SRO housing, and now I live in what they call Section 42 housing,” Garza, a U.S. Marine veteran told Eyewitness News, referring to single-room-occupancy housing.

Garza is part of what is now a class-action lawsuit filed against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs over its failure to provide housing and health care to veterans with disabilities.
